Warning Signs of Colon Cancer
Like mentioned before on our other page, colon cancer is a very serious disease that adversely changes many people’s lives. There aren’t many ways to treat the colon cancer once it has spread and is in full swing, and so it can be very dangerous. Obviously then early detection is critical. This is why you should know about some colon cancer symptoms to look out for.
It is sad that colon cancer often creeps up on people and side swipes them when they least expect it and can do the least to fight it once it is advanced. In the beginning more treatable phases, colon cancer symptoms can consist of delayed or abnormal bowel movements, visible or occult blood in excrement, anemia and fatigue. Other symptoms that are less common but do appear are excessive perspiration during the night and sometimes even diarrhea.
One of the most “visible” and alarming signs of colon cancer is blood in your stool. While cancer isn’t the only cause of this symptom, it is nonetheless very prudent to inform and discuss it with your doctor. There is a good chance that it may be colon or colorectal cancer. If however the disease isn’t caught and is allowed to spread, more serious symptoms that signify late stage cancer is weight loss without change in diet, fatigue and weakness along with sharp abdominal pains.
The best way to check for cancer and keep safe however is regular visits to the doctor for thorough check ups and colonoscopies. This test, which I talked about in an earlier article, can spot polyps. These polyps can be the turn tumorous and their presence is usually a bad sign especially in older people, but if they are caught early with a colonoscopy they can be surgically removed.
So remember these cancer symptoms, especially if you are over the age of forty, and don’t forget to get regular screenings with your doctor.
